Eco Wind Power is actively involved in the Irish Wind Energy sector and plans to be a major player in a small but rapidly growing market. Having secured a large pipeline of projects with excellent potential, Eco Wind Power is now poised to move to the next stage in its development cycle.

The Irish Government has stated that it is ready to kick-start the wind industry, partly in response to the fast approaching Kyoto penalties but also in response to EU initiatives on Carbon taxes and CO2 reduction.
Ireland must act now, on a big scale, to reduce the level of CO2 emissions and reduce the penalties. Wind Power is the only realistic way that can be achieved in the requisite timeframe.

Viridian acquired the major wind farm operator Eco Wind Power from Treasury Holdings in April 2008. Viridian's retail energy business, Energia will use the acquisition to strengthen its position as a leading all-island player in the provision of renewable power.
Energia already supplies green electricity to its customers from a range of wind farm contracts, in addition to conventional supply from Viridian's two major gas fired generating stations in Dublin. Energia has 250MW of renewable capacity contracted within its energy portfolio, the majority of which is operational or forecasted to reach commercial operation in 2008 with a further 82MW of wind farm projects currently in development across Ireland.
Eco Wind Power is currently developing 121MW of fully approved wind generating capacity, on top of its existing operational windfarm capacity of 24MW.
It also has a substantial pipeline of development projects.
